Fragility, suffering, loneliness as well as serenity and joy are recurring themes in Laurence Demy’s plastic work.
Formerly a director of communication films, she now expresses through her ceramics and paintings in 20 her own universe and decor.
Her ceramic sculpture work mostly features porcelain figures reminiscent of the paper characters she cut out as a child: “Les Solos” or “Hlilliputiens”, facetious little men. These characters evolve in balance on or in sandstone decors reminiscent of rocks or pebbles, these stones mistreated and at the same time polished and smoothed by the waves.
A series on the theme of plants reminiscent of wild herbs is worked with inks on canvas or in porcelain and sandstone.
Currently Laurence Demy is working on the theme “11les petites culottes”, light and poetic representations of this feminine garment common to all women. The staging evokes feminine intimacy.
